Nintendo Finally Gives Actual Zelda Timeline!!!

It seems people were simultaneously right about how Ocarina of Time and how it split the timeline, and simultaneously wrong about it in a way they never could have possibly guessed. The 25th anniversary puts the order leading up to Ocarina as: Skyward Sword, Minish Cap, Four Swords, Ocarina of Time. Afterwards it has 3 branch of points, two of which are pretty much exactly what gamers always predicted. However, it's the new information that makes it all finally make so much more sense.

After link defeated Gannon at the end of Ocarina of Time he gets sent back in time, but time in that timeline continues going forward and it's that the "Hero of Time" Link is not there when that Ganon breaks back out of his sealing which causes the Goddesses to flood Hyrule in an effort to stop him. This leads into the events of Windwaker, afterwhich takes place Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks.

The Link from the end of Ocarina of Time that got sent back in time told a young Zelda what Ganon was planning and four court hylian sages, different from the 7 sages of Ocarina of Time, seal Gannon up in the Twilight Realm before most of the events of Ocarina of Time ever happen. Then this Link gets sidetracked into an alternate dimension adventure in Majora's Mask. Much later Ganon would return from the Twilight Realm in Twilight Princess. Sometime after both of these events would occur Four Swords Adventures (Which has a different plot from Four Swords).

Now comes the part no one could have ever possibly expected. In alternate set of events, Link gets to the end of Ocarina of Time AND GANNON KILLS HIM. After this various armies raise up and fight against Gannon in a century of conflict until they eventually help the the seven sages seal away Gannon in the Golden Ream (possibly not the same 7 sages, thus explaining the race issue some people have always noticed), as explained in the opening events of A Link to the Past. After the Hero of LttP kicks Gannon's ass in the Golden Realm, he goes on a series of adventures which first include the Oracle Games and eventually ends with Link's Awakening. Later a different Link would get wrapped up in the Incidents of Zelda 1 and 2 (with 1 ending with Gannon flat out losing the Triforce of power at its end).

Dayum :o

Yeah, no one would ever guessed a whole universe dedicated to Link failing.

i hope we get a game set inbetween ocarina and lttp, where we see a mural with ganondorf brutally vivisecting link

It would be interesting to see a game based on the century of conflict.

i remember reading one of the original nintendo power magazines with the 64 version of the game in elementary school and i thought link and zelda were swapped names =/

It is odd to have a series named after a character who barely has a part in most of the entries.

YOU GOT TO GO DEEPER.
LINKCEPTION!

Actual Zelda timeline = Ubelievable retcons and timey wimey handwaving. Nice!

It was bound to happen with Miyamoto not caring about continuity originally, and with Ocarina of Time itself creating a time loop in its own plot. By the way, mad props for the Doctor Who reference.

I see words, like "might" and "maybe, so I don't completely buy this story.

I will admit, I would like to see the art book myself. I'm sure if this is from the art book, we'll soon have scans of it online (albeit in Japanaese).

It goes like this, Ocarina of Time made a clusterfuck

That pretty much sums it up, the series made perfect sense up until that game was released.

The people who play the Zelda series actually care about the storyline? That's nuts, I can barely keep track of the event timeline in the Underworld movie series. You must be such a confused lot.

But we have to go deeper.
NINCEPTION.

The timeline splits into three starting from OoT?
I don't buy it. We need more proof.

Sounds complicated. But, of course, you WOULD be interesting in anything TIME based, eh? ;)

I have Ocarina of Time and Skyward Sword (both finished at least once), and I haven't played any other games of the Link series so I'll just try to sum this up the best I can. Ocarina of Time had seven years pass by just because of age. (Are the gods and goddesses really that forceful?) Then Ganon[dorf] was sealed in the Silent Realm by the six (Light, Shadow, Grass, Fire, Water, and Spirit, what do you mean by seven?) sages. Link then went back to his own time as a kid and told Zelda about that future to prevent it. Then some magic people or someone tried to keep Ganon from taking over Hyrule again after he broke out soon after. At this point I'm going to add my own thoughts. Link killed him again, or sealed, and then other stories follow or something. For some reason he finds the Master Sword in different places in every battle he has with the bad guys. (The rulers of Hyrule just can't make up their minds can they?) Then he ends up being one of the people that was on the giant piece of floating rock that the goddess Hylia sent up during the war with Demise (a.k.a Ganondorf reincarnated or something) and somehow grew up with Zelda at birth there. He got the Goddess Sword (a.k.a the future Master Sword (AGAIN)), Demise broke out of the seal three times (man, Ganondorf got strong!) and a fourth time where he turned backed to his real form, and was sealed not in the Silent Realm, but actually IN the Master Sword. Fi the magical being is also sealed in there, feeling happy because she was helpful to you, and Link stays on the earth with Zelda, the reincarnation of Goddess Hylia. Is that right? In a nutshell, OCARINA OF TIME TIME WARPED DA FUTURE. Right?

...I hate time travel.

Well...I went & gave it a look & the different time lines sound right. The only games the are misplaced are the Oracle series. They have characters like Tingle, the guy who plays the music box who's also in Kakariko's windmill in OoT, Epona, & enemies like Twinrova at the end of a joint game & comments like Impa making a comment about Link having a Triforce on his hand (a comment, btw, that's not made at all in the other time lines & must ultimately be assumed to be something non-exsistent) that tie them in such a way as happening soon after the events in Majora's Mask. Other than that, like I said, the time lines sound spot on accurate to me.

And it's funny, but events making different timelines split off into different directions actually makes some sense if you watch the Back to the Future trilogy of all things. Especially part 2. Lol.
