I never watched One Piece but I can already judge the degree of this special event that would have One Piece fans squirming over their heels and have the general anime community go OH SNAP.

Lol one piece anime is a pretty poor production anyway. What they should be doing is instead of trying to air on the same day as japan, they should be trying to get better animes in general. I mean anyone could just torrent the latest episode anyway.
